Memory, Everyone Pees

So what I was intending with this video was to force people into remembering waking up in the night and going to the bathroom. It is something everyone does. I wanted to use mostly sound to invoke the memory.

Pacifist slapping gentleman

The idea was to have myself being assaulted, something more people would react to, and to remain calm. I clipped around a lot to add emphasis and variety.

Material Exploration Wood

I woke up with Wood
The only purpose behind this is to put the viewer in the position of waking up next to a large pile of wood sticks after a long night out. I want it to have a 'what the fuck?' and 'is there a point?' feel to it.

'WTF' are those doing there
This was a covert operation in hobby lobby. After purchasing my materials I walked around and found a spot with no cameras or employees then pulled this pile of sticks from my pocket and took a photo. I wanted it to have the feeling of just stumbling on something weird.

To my Mother, Happy Mothers Day
There is a pleasure in the woods, there is rapture in the lonely shore, there is society where none intrudes, by the deep sea and music in its roar; I love not man the less, but nature more. - George Byron
I made this orchid for my mother and covered it in a quote I thought she would really like that also had wood in it. This piece is representational and was only supposed to show my progress in wood burning after practicing.

Alien 1
This was my second or third wood burning and I felt it came out better than the prior two. It is intended to look like a three eye'd alien with a beak, tentacles and wings. And a belly...

Abstract 1
I focused on mark and texture in this and really tried to make some dark marks. Its an abstract work done on bass wood.

Abstract 1337

This was my larger abstract that I enjoyed making very much. It was started geometric and became very organic by the end. The viewers eyes are supposed to focus on the bottom triangle and the flow and rhythm it has.

Material Exploration Transparency

 Sorry I'm Illegal

This photo is meant to chastise the way that a plant can be made illegal because some other people feel it should be and the ridiculous idea that we have to do everything authority figures say because the have "authority."

Concealed Light
I wanted to play with the thought I had on how we try to control things we cant like light and weather. This piece is supposed to be semi ironic because of it name and the materials used. It is also interesting in my opinion in the way the black back catches your eye despite it being in 'middle.'

Wasteful
My thoughts on this were as follows: Over reaction, Excessive smell, American avarice and wastefulness, and positioning.

The happy bad decision
this is supposed to be playfully ironic and dangerously on the funny side. The picture is happy and hilarious but the reality of how easy it is to choke on plastic wrap, or in general, is really daunting. Especially because people kill people with plastic wrap.

The end; a suffocating story
This is a counter piece to the previos one; the black to it's white. I chose the darkest of the photos taken because the blurry darkness helps to hide the life in me. This piece expresses ideas about suffocating and a plastic wrapped death.

Black Back Drop

I wanted to use the transparency of the glass to allow me to change the different backgrounds behind the  paint. I feel it looked really great with the solid black behind it.

Material Exploration Water

Droplosion

My intent with this series of photos was to capture the natural beauty of water and the awesome way it reacts with sediment based dye.

Frozen Color

Although this experiment did not work out how I wanted it to, it was still very successful. The darkening of the ice blocks added with the light from the rising sun give it a really refreshing feel that highlights the colors chosen to make this piece.

A cold wet birthday

The combination of water, wax and fire. My intent was to combine this opposing ideas in a sort of birthday theme. It was really interesting to watch the ice melt around the candle and inthe end one is left with a sort of 'what now' sense. I like the feeling that this series of photos gives as it matches how I felt when I did it.

The Down Pour

I wanted to highlight the dangerous nature of water that is often overlooked. Water is very capable to kill. And it wants to. Its watching.

Where our(their)  water goes
This piece was supposed to combine the idea of us taking water from other countries far away and then how much water we just let go down the drain.

Slink
I intended to create something that illustrated the versatility of water. I wanted to show the ease at which it flowed over something that was hardly even there.

Material Exploration Gravity

Properties of Money

The intent behind this was to bring to light the properties of money and how it has a way of just floating away. The dollar bills are placed symbolicly like birds to enhance the feeling of floating or flying away. They also resemble birds on a wire and give the idea of something being just out of reach but always watching and close.

Hail Storm; Something great

My intent was to represent the power of gravity and the idea of pieces of ice falling fromt the sky, which after all is a pretty amazing phenomina and a dangerous one. The blue sheen and the slight role are what make this video.
Being a kid again
An attempt to illustrate the joy of experiencing gravity on our own bodys.

Vertigo
This piece was was supposed to put the viewer in the position of someone being tugged and yanked up into the air by a cord and the feeling of being lowered. I wanted it to make people feel some sort of height or even trigger someones feel of heights.

What it MEANS to fly
This was an attempt to put the viewer at the eye perspective of one of the many creatures in this world that can jump or fly or fling itself many times its own height into the air. The cat helps illustrate this and an idea of being chased and fleeing with afor mentioned methods of escape.

Not so precariously not so floating in the Wind.

This was a controlled recreation of a bag floating in the wind. However I did it in a corridor to keep it contained and so that the bag would not have as much freedom as one in a parking lot would. I wanted to bring to light the restrictions put on us by things that are very much out of our control.

Material Exploration Eradication

The Unhappy Birthday

My intention with this piece was to create something through the destruction of its mass using fire and my hands. The piece reads 'destroyed' really well which makes me feel that it was successful. I feel that the burnt parts and the mixing of the glass were more effective that the tearing of the paper or the tacks.

Destructa-Art- Recreation

My first destructa-art piece was a recreation of a paint which had been broken down into many pieces. I first tried to rearrange the parts into a new piece. The work looked better rebuilt as it as though. The gaps and spaces give this piece a really broken feel while the congruence of what is displayed brings it together to make it look complete.

Destructa-Art Found Pieces

After destroying my large painting. I examined the pieces from the wreckage. This broken piece seemed the most like a finished piece of art to me out of all the parts. I got a christmassy mountainy feel from it.   Like an abstract grinch clip.

Charlie Sheen sneezed on my Art and made it illegal!
The object was to erase the image underneath using something that is almost 97% the time erased. Chalk is a very impermanent medium and I thought it would be interesting to flip the role and use it to cover something up.

Destructer-piece

This was another attempt to create something new by destroying an old piece of work. I wanted to ad some depth and space to the flat painting. It was very linear and I kept that in where I chose to break it. The changing of the angles though really changed the feel of it to something that is inviting and disregard-able.

Taking it a step further

Cutting and stabbing were already a big theme in this painting. However when I made it and after I 'finished' it; I did not feel it as done. I wanted to add something physical and more emotional to the piece to really give it the fast upset feeling I was going for when I painted it. The knife helps illustrate that well as does the hanging strip.

Material Exploration Twine

Bound

I originally intended for this picture to have a more despairing help me look to it. But when I saw the shirt just saying 'Kill' and the lighting making Meaghan's face so menacing I decided to change the feel. It conveys a sense of playful defiance.

Bonded for Life

This was meant to make a connection (punny) to the bond of marriage and how intensely it forms peoples identities and effects their major decisions in life.

You CAN'T leave me!

My intention with this place was to place emphasis on peoples attachment to each other. I tried to represent that by showing the struggle of one trying to leave the other. This photo as most successful because of the visible tension. The shadows also help the feel and give the photo a ominous feeling.

Creationism X String Baby V2.0
This picture was an attempt to try something new with the string and an attempt at creating something half abstract half representational. String is like an underdeveloped rope or blanket or tea cozy, that is why I made the 'child' look very fedal.  Knotica, Stringmother
This came about through experimentation. I was not sure what I was making but the entire time I was making it I was focused on hanging and suffocation. The productis this half wasp half human hanging from a cord. I think it conveys, especially due to the position of the arms, a sense of superiority, mabey even over death. conflicting ideas
This is a sort of cause and effect piece. The objective was to use the twine as an instigator.

Material Exploration Tape

The Tape Tree

My idea for this piece came from thinking about the properties of tape.
I began with it sticking things together which then led to me thinking about being stuck. The dead tree and its roots spelling stuck are supposed to represent this.
The Spiders Web

The inspiration for this piece came from thinking about things that were sticky like tape. The Spiders Web is supposed to pay homage to the natural adhesive powers of the spider and also point out the great translucence a spider's web has.

Duct Duck
I wanted to bring to like the heavy association between duct tape and ducks. This really came about from me always calling it duck tape untill I did this prodject and found out outherwise. I continued to illustrate the duck theme with more ducks flying (a reference to the sky) and with waves and water crashing against rocks. Making the connection between the the two places the duck is comfortable that we are not.
Hover Sink

These are all the items in my roommates bathroom. I was surprised by the little amount of bathroom stuff. I wanted to show that everything could be held up by a little tape.

Where it counts

I was interested in using tape as a framing device to cover up a vast majority of my body. This was mostly because I feel that the face, mainly the eyes, is where our identity lies.

Our souls leave through our wrist

I used this little wooden man to display a sense of the soul leaving the body. And that the wrist are the point at which it comes forth. The regular scotch tape worked well because it had a white milky ghost like feel to it. The wooden figure gives of a great dead or dying sense to do it's lack of identity and it's lifelessness.
